When Katniss and Peeta’s son was born, it was more than just a happy moment for them. It was Haymitch’s salvation, because the existance of this kid, his godchild, changed everything. The baby boy was the only reason why Haymitch quit drinking. He wanted to remember his first words. No surprise that the first one he ever tried to say was “Haymitch”. But it sounded more like “aemit”.

Has anyone thought about how Peeta felt when the girl he has loved for at least a decade volunteered to take the place of her sister in something that could almost only promise death? I can only imagine that his heart was on the verge of completely breaking when Effie said, “Katniss Everdeen” before the crowd once she took Prim’s place. And I bet, in some way, when Effie called his name, he thought it was a blessing.
